Following the success of critically-acclaimed singles such as “Some Other Dude” and “Man Up”, London-based alternative rock group Everywhere show no signs of slowing down with the recent release of a brand new single, a cover/interpretation of “Moments” by Swedish four-piece KEV.
Fusing pop aesthetic with alternative rock instrumentals, the new “Moments” was crafted after a chance encounter between artists, subtlety transforming the original electro-pop effort into a “laid-back anthemic retro stomper” that maintains its carpe diem message. While the scaled back arrangement on Everywhere’s version is the most noticeable difference, vocalist Max Berga alters the underlying meaning with a vocal performance that strangely blends melancholy and optimism.
“Moments” strives to inspire and uplift with a burst of positivity and euphoria pouring out of the songwriting and soaring progression. It easily accomplishes its challenging goal. Paired with a slight throwback environment created by the 80s-leaning production, the juxtaposition of Berga’s gloomy-sounding vocal delivery and the bright and infectious supporting beats provide an escape from reality for a brief yet appreciated three minutes.
During a time when the world is facing political, economic and social uncertainty, when constant bleak and depressing news has siphoned the happiness out of many, Everywhere accomplishes a “battle cry” vibe that forces listeners to embrace and enjoy the now. “They say we are dreamers, that it's in our mind, but I feel it in my heart, I can feel it loud,” Berga sings on the opening verse before quickly diving into the radio-tailored, uptempo chorus that aims to provide hope and support.
Instead of dwelling on the troubles and negativity surrounding them, the band effectively calls for the down trotted to rise up and push forward. “Moments” can be summed up as an anthem for the outcasts, informing the neglected that they are far from alone. In fact, the numbers of those who will resonate with the effort are likely staggering. The creation could have been meant as a simple distraction, but Everywhere must know they’ve made a lasting impact on those who discover the release.
Overall, the recently shared “Moments” is a feel-good experience. Following the funk-inspired “Man Up”, which warned suitors of a salivating maneater on the hunt, the band has switched gears once again to deliver an authentic message of perseverance and determination with a catchy beat thrown in for good measure. The words may not be their own, but the rising stars seem to have been as moved by KEV’s version as their fans will be by their reimagining.
