Screenshots are the Internet gifts that keep on giving, and while they don't always tell the whole story (or even an accurate one) sometimes they give us a glimpse into social media feuds.
For example, the tiff that apparently happened between Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez over Instagram this weekend.
While traveling through Japan, Bieber posted a whopping six images of him and his rumored girlfriend, Sofia Richie (yes, Lionel Richie's daughter).
Beliebers, upset that they couldn't explore the Japanese culture with the man himself, wrote some pretty mean comments at Richie. When Bieber threatened to make his Instagram private if the hurtful remarks continued, singer Gomez (and ex-girlfriend of the Biebs) stepped in on behalf of Beliebers everywhere.
"If you can't handle the hate then stop posting pictures of your girlfriend lol -it should be special between you two only," Gomez wrote under an image of the new couple. "Don't be mad at your fans. They love you."
The Shade Room is just one of the accounts that captured screenshots of the squabble, but whether they are real or fake is still hard to determine. According to other screenshots though, Gomez might have edited the comment to add, "they were there for you before anyone."
Bieber clapped back with two responses, writing:
It's funny to see people that used me for attention and still try to point the finger this way. Sad. All love."
And...
"I'm not one for anyone receiving hate. Hope u all can be kind to my friends and each other. And yes I love my beliebers."
Here is where things get a little more convoluted, because only screenshots exist as proof. Allegedly, Gomez responded by saying, "Funny how the ones that cheated multiple times, are pointing the finger at the ones that were forgiving and supportive."
Seems like killing 'em with kindness is her post-shade strategy: Gomez has been liking and commenting fan accounts posting about the feud, and also threw up a picture showing gratitude for fan support.
No word from the Biebs yet, but—it might not be too late to say sorry?
